Beloved Books becoming Films // Pride & Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the society of early 19th-century England. Though it is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books'. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes. To date, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide. [source: Wikipedia]

The Bennet Sisters: Rosamund Pike as Jane, Talulah Riley as Mary, Jena Malone as Lydia, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth and Carey Mulligan as Kitty

Plot: In Georgian England, Mrs. Bennet raises her five daughters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia with the purpose of getting married with a rich husband that can support the family. They are not from the upper class, and their house in Hertfordshire will be inherited by a distant cousin if Mr. Bennet dies. When the wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley and his best friend Mr. Darcy arrive in town to spend the summer in a mansion nearby their property, the shy and beautiful Jane falls in love for Mr. Bingley, and Lizzie finds Mr. Darcy a snobbish and proud man, and she swears to loathe him forever. This is the beginning of their wonderful love story. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I really enjoy reading Jane Austen's books, so I suggest you read this masterpiece, if you haven't already, and you should definitely watch the movie, which was nominated in four categories at 2006 Oscars: Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Costume Design (lost over 'Memoirs of a Geisha'), Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (she lost over Reese Witherspoon for 'Walk the Line'). Trust me, you will thank me afterwards!

A great growing up story!
Lots of hugs & kisses!!
